Songs to Get Up In Your Feels
I was sitting at my desk this afternoon annoyed at a lot of things (mostly dealing with home warranty stuff - never buy a Mattamy home). As I was cruising along listening to a station on Apple Music a song that came out a few months ago that I had never heard came up - "Same Here" by Brad Paisley that includes a sound bite of him talking to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. Having served in Ukraine, it hit close to home and I thought about some other songs that might make you feel some things.
But first, here's the main lyrics from Same Here:
However you talk, whatever you think
From the songs that you sing to the drink that you drink
If you miss your mama and worry 'bout your babies
And love each other like crazy
And want someone to share your hopes and fears
Same here
I've got a friend across the ocean
Seems like a million miles away
He says our worlds are very different
And yeah, that's true, but I gotta say
He's got his own kind of football team that
Let's him down every year
A wife he loves and a bunch of dreams
For his country he holds so dear
He prays for peace and freedom
Same here
When I Get Where I'm Going - Brad Paisley (feat. Dolly Parton)
Since I first thought about this from a Brad Paisley song, I hopped over to listen to another one of his songs that is an all-time classic. It's been five and a half years since I lost my sister, but it feels like yesterday. My wife lost her grandfather earlier this year and cousin and uncle at the tail end of 2021.
I'm gonna walk with my grandaddy
And he'll match me step for step
And I'll tell him how I've missed him
Every minute since he left
And then I'll hug his neck
Yeah, when I get where I'm going
There'll be only happy tears
I will shed the sins and struggles
I have carried all these years
And I'll leave my heart wide open
I will love and have no fear
Yeah, when I get where I'm going
Don't cry for me down here...
But when I get where I'm going
And I see my Maker's face
I'll stand forever in the light
Of His amazing grace
Grab a tissue and watch the music video:
American Flag on the Moon
Another Paisley classic - if this isn't on your 4th of July playlist, you should have your passport revoked.
Tonight I dare you to dream
Go on, believe impossible things
Whenever anybody says there's anything we can't do
I mean after all, there's an American flag on the moon
American Child - Phil Vassar
Also for that same playlist.
You're Not Alone - Saosin
This is a bit more angsty teenager - but that's probably because it came out when I was in high school. Fun fact: lead singer Cove Reber was once in a band called "Mormon in the Middle". The video is a little....different trying to bee overly artistic.
Burn Out Brighter - Anberlin
Still high school, less angsty, no music video. For all the dark/troubled feelings You're Not Alone gives, this is the "I made it out let's go kick ass" compliment. Anberlin might be one of the most underrated bands of my generation.
Live, I wanna live inspired
Die, I wanna die for something
Higher than myself
Live and die for anyone else
The more I live, I see this life's not about me
I asked a few Hellions if they had any songs that just messed them up, and here's a sampling:
Fire Away - Chris Stapleton
See You Again - Wizz Khalifa feat Charlie Pluth
The greatest film franchise in history.
Manifest - Andrew Bird
I hadn't heard this one until he said it was his song and woo boy.
