By Your Fruits Ye Shall Know Them
Another year, another hit piece from the Tribune's BYU beat. Shocker.
In an article published this morning Kevin Reynolds found it fitting to discuss BYU's NIL with 2 disgruntled players. According to the report, there was a meeting held by Min Kim discussing payments to players. Isaiah Bagnah and Crew Wakely took to the paper to tell all.
The only problem? Nobody gives a rat's [redacted].
Isaiah Bagnah was not even signed with The Royal Blue last season. He worked with Coug Connect.
The Galaxy Brained Crew Wakely didn't think anything bad would come of watching film with a former player who hates BYU whose younger brother is the starting QB for a conference opponent.
Not exactly the two spokespeople for the cause you want, Kevin. Also Kevin, word of advice, if you're showing up to a new state where you don't know anybody and are assigned to cover the school with the largest fan base in the state - don't go for the "hard hitting investigative journalism" approach. It was dumb over $250 of protein bars, and it's dumb now.
The Reality
Push come to shove - players were very content with last season. Why would I believe that this meeting destroyed morale, players are upset, etc?
We just went 11-2, and the only defection was Brother Wakely who is dead to me. And I'm supposed to be upset about this?
The fruits show that our NIL is in a good place. Not only was there zero football turnover, look at basketball:
- Egor
- Mikhailo
- Keita
- Catchings
- Elijah Crawford
- Richie Saunders not going to Kentucky.
- Dallin Hall running it back.
Oh, and the #1 overall player in AJ Dybansta and Xavion Stanton for next year.
We're aggressively in the race for Ryder Lyons, the #3 QB and #12 overall in the 2026 football class.
But let's trust Kevin here that there's no money.
Sure Bud.
