1st and 10

Football is a lot like life. I think it’s why I love the game so much. Maybe it’s why we all love it.

As the year winds down, I’ve been thinking about a tweet that went viral earlier. Guy has a baby and then finds out it’s not his. Instead of saying “it is what it is” he said “ball up top”.  People ran with it as a great phrase because it’s more on the offensive than letting things be what they are.

Since football is objectively better than basketball (but we still love shooty hoops), we need to transform that phrase. So on this NYE I give you ”1st & 10”

Why?

Because you never have just one chance. In life you can play the field position game. Sometimes it’s okay to punt. You can win without scoring every time you touch the ball. You can take a sack and still move the sticks.

Most importantly - I think we get stuck in this all or nothing mindset where you need to figure everything out right now in a panic - but you don’t. You just need to chip away at it. If you get 10% of the way, you get a whole new lease on life with a fresh set of downs.

It’s an under appreciated new beginning that we take for granted. But that’s not what our readers are going to do next year.

The clock strikes midnight and it’s the kickoff. Tomorrow starts our 2025 drive.

Run the damn ball down their throats.

Move the sticks.
